The history of Barefoot begins with garage wines in the 1960s with the name reflecting the manual practice of crushing grapes by stomping on them. Barefoot Cellars officially came into being in 1986, when it was established by Michael Houlihan and Bonnie Harvey, along with the creation of the iconic footprint label. The company launched with two varieties, Sauvignon Blanc and Cabernet Sauvignon. Barefoot slowly added new varieties as demand increased and in 1996, achieved coast-to-coast distribution in the United States.
