The Flag of West Sussex is a heraldic banner that represents the English county of West Sussex. The design was officially adopted on October 16, 2008. It features three gold (or yellow) lions passant guardant (walking with tails up and claws extended), each representing one of the historic counties of which West Sussex is derived: Sussex, Surrey, and Sussex again. The flag also incorporates a red St George's Cross in the upper hoist quarter, symbolizing the county's connection to England. The design was created by Graham Carter, a local heraldic expert and designer, who won a competition held by West Sussex County Council to find a suitable emblem for the county.
