The Uppsala Vocal Ensemble was founded in 1964 as a national choir in Uppsala, a city that had flourished since the Middle Ages around a university, and after touring abroad in 1980 under the direction of Hkan Plkman (1955-1988), the ensemble, together with the male voice choir Orfei Drengal The choir is now regarded as one of Uppsala's leading choirs. The album "Woolwerk" is titled "Woolwerk," a play on the words "primitive works" and "clockwork. It features three works premiered by the Uppsala Vocal Ensemble under the direction of Sofia Ogren. Almost Four Improvisations," composed for "chorus and alto saxophone" by Emil Rohberg (1985-), who mainly works with music for choirs, orchestras, and chamber ensembles, and commissioned by the Uppsala Vocal Ensemble, with different approaches to melody, sound, rhythm, and improvisation. Maria Rieter Flug (1965-), a well-known singer, composed "Breathe out of my breast" on a folklore poem.A Hundred Trillion Psalms" by Mattin Q.
