Description:
The first woman to teach piano at the Paris Conservatory, Louise Falanques was a respected figure in 19th century Parisian music. As a composer, she wrote symphonies and chamber music, and her husband published about 40 works, but after her death, her works have been largely neglected. In recent years, however, her works have been attracting renewed attention and are being performed more often. In this album, the Linos Ensemble performs four of her works. All of them have substantial piano parts, as was typical of the excellent pianist Falanques, and are beautiful works that incorporate the emotional expression of the Romantic period into traditional Classical forms. The Flute Trio, Op. 45, written in the 1850s, in particular, showcases a mature compositional technique and makes full use of the singing flute melody. Naxos Japan
